Neal R. Willard was born on October 28, 1934 in New York. He joined the United States Navy in 1951 at the age of 17 and served in Korea. Neal reported to RIVDIV 593, Iron Butterfly, in September of 1969 while the division was on Operation Ready Deck. He saw action on the Upper Saigon River and in the Rung Sat Special Zone.
On the rivers of Vietnam or on the roads of America, he was a shipmate and a friend. After returning from Vietnam and retiring from the Navy, he became a long haul trucker and would try to find fellow warriors on his many trips across America. Finally poor health and a bad fall took Neal off the highway, but he never gave up looking for or staying in touch with fellow members of Gamewardens.
Neal received his last set of orders, August 15, 1994 and is now serving on the staff of the Supreme Commander. Neal, you are missed; keep your powder dry and don't forget your cover boat will always be there.
Neal left behind a wife Margaret, two sons, four daughters and several grandchildren.
