Frank Jacaruso, was born in New York State, he was raised and attended school in Spring Valley, NY. Frank joined the Navy on November 27, 1968 and following basic training, Gunnersmate School, and PBR training at Mare Island. He reported to RIVDIV 593, Iron Butterfly, in October of 1969 at Nha Be, Vietnam. He saw heavy combat patrolling both on the upper Saigon River on Operation Ready Deck and the Rung Sat Special Zone.

On March 12, 1970, a three boat patrol from 593 consisting of PBR's 761, 756, 842 were patrolling twenty miles northwest of Phu Cuong in an area of heavy Viet Cong and NVA concentration when they were ambushed by a large enemy force firing B-40 rockets and automatic weapons fired from the west bank of the river. Several crewmembers were hit and Gunnersmate Jacaruso was fatally wounded.

Frank was a good crewman and gunner. He was a solid shipmate in a firefight and a friend to many. He was and is missed by his family and those with whom he served.

Frank left behind a family including his parents, Franklin and Alberta, brothers Wayne and Robert and a sister, Donna. Robert is a Life Memorial member of Gamewardens and is in touch with several members of Iron Butterfly.
