RONALD ROBERT WALTON, born Jan. 10, 1946 in Canandaigua, NY. Graduated from Hamburg High School in 1965. Went to basic training in February 1966 at Great Lakes, IL. After basic reported to USS Paul Revere (APA-248). Volunteering almost immediately for Vietnam, he entered PBR training NIOTC at Mare Island, Vallejo, CA in September 1968.
Entered Vietnam during TET New Years 1969. Assigned to RIVDIV 593, Iron Butterfly. Assigned to a couple of makeshift patrols before being assigned to PBR 756 under James Davy boat captain and Patrol Officer Bob Monzingo. On Sept. 15, 1969 he was wounded and medivaced to Cu Chi field hospital. Eventually sent to St. Albans Naval Hospital in Queens, NY.
Medically retired from USN in April 1970. Awarded Bronze Star w/V, two Navy Meritorious medals, "V," Purple Heart and two Presidential Unit Citations among others.
He has held numerous jobs until being diagnosed with PTSD in 1989. Currently 100 percent retired.
Married and has two stepchildren and one grandchild. Involved with AMVETS, held a county position and worked his way up to commander of post.
