Biography

JOHN RICHARD KEIPER, born Sept. 26, 1932 in Hazelton, PA. Entered the service Jan. 7, 1952. Completed NIOTS training at Vallejo, CA on Sept. 1, 1967. Reported to Command Naval Forces Vietnam on Sept. 7, 1967. Assigned to RIVSEC 543, Rung Sat Special Zone. Later he helped form Section 544. Patrolled Rung Sat until leaving country in September 1968. He served with top sailors on PBRs.

He remembers giving toys to the kids on the river sent from Eugene, OR collected by his wife.  Retired from the Navy March 1, 1974 as BMC. Awarded the Bronze Star w/Combat V, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal (5th award), European Occupation Medal, NDSM w/Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/4 stars, RVN Gallantry Cross and Campaign Ribbon.

Retired USO after 23 years. He was married to Lorenah, deceased; he has two children, Sherri and Patricia and one grandson, Devon.
