ALBERT FRANK "JOHN" JOHNSON, born Jan. 12, 1947 in Denver. Enlisted USN June 6, 1966 following San Diego boot camp. He was assigned Gunner's Mate A School, Great Lakes, IL. Stationed aboard USS Mispillion (AO-105), he spent six months on South China Sea. Volunteered for PBR duty late 1967, trained for patrol craft, Vietnamese language, counterinsurgency, SERE, small arms, West Coast, thence Cubic Point, Philippines and JEST School. Reported RIVSEC 523, Delta Gypsy, Vinh Long before TET 1968. Completed over 30 patrols. Transferred to Nha Be to aid activation RIVSEC 544, RIVDIV 593, Iron Butterfly as forward gunner. Later became Boat No. 841 captain made 345 patrols and extended six months. Mid 1967, extended again and transferred to CTU 1941. Team 2, Duffelbag, to train with electronic surveillance team. Afterwards, traveled III/IV Corps scouting and sniping. Separated Dec. 12, 1969.
Awarded Silver Star, two Navy Commendations w/V, 10 Vietnam Service Medals, three Presidential Unit Commendations, Meritorious Unit, RVN Gallantry Cross and Civil Actions.
After the service he went to college and was a welder/engineer for over 20 years. Currently a leather smith/artist.
