Biography

WAYNE D. JANOUSEK, born July 13, 1947 in Twin Falls, ID. Enlisted in the Navy June 1965 and entered active service in June 1966. After basic training in San Diego, CA he was assigned to the USS Point Defiance. In July 1967 he received orders to Commander Naval Forces Vietnam following intensive training at Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado, CA, NIOTC at Mare Island, CA and jungle environment survival training at Subic Bay NS, Philippines. After completion of training, he was transferred to RIVRON 5 Saigon and was assigned to River Section 544, which later became RIVDIV 593.

Seaman Janousek was assigned to boat 761 as the boat seaman. During the 15-1/2 months as a member of Iron Butterfly, he made over 200 combat patrols and was promoted to gunners mate third class.

Awarded Bronze Star w/Combat V, Purple Heart, Navy Achievement Medal w/Combat V, Navy Commendation Award, Meritorious Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citations among others.

Wayne Janousek later converted his gunners mate rating to data processing technician and retired January 1987 with over 20 years active service. After retiring he worked as a computer programmer and started a successful software consulting business in Dallas, TX. He resides on a small farm just outside Jarrell, TX with his wife and two children. Currently works as a software engineer for Dell Computer Corp. in Austin.
