Biography

JAMES DEAN DAVY, born Feb. 28, 1948 in Anaconda, MT. He enlisted in the USN September 1965. Following basic training in San Diego, CA, he was assigned to the USS Independence (CVA-62). In early 1967 he was ordered to Commander Naval Forces Vietnam and following a course of intensive training at the Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, VA he reported to Naval Support Activity Saigon for further assignment in the Mekong Delta region. Completing his first tour of duty in September 1968, Petty Officer Davy volunteered for another year in the war zone and was sent back to the states for additional training at the NIOTC, Mare Island, CA.

Upon completion of training at Mare Island and a course in Vietnamese, Petty Officer Davy reported to COMRIVPATFLOT 5, Vietnam for assignment to RIVDIV 593, Iron Butterfly. He was a boat captain of PBR 756 and made over 200 total combat patrols.

His decorations and awards include four Bronze Stars w/Combat Vs, two Purple Hearts for wounds in combat, Meritorious Service Medal, four Navy Commendation Awards, Army Commendation w/Combat V, two Presidential Unit Citations and RVN Gallantry Cross, among others.

He remained in the Navy for 24 years, retiring as a master chief petty officer in 1988. Completed his BS degree, taught NJROTC for the Chief of Naval Education and Training following his retirement. Now works for the Department of Veterans Affairs. He is a life member of Gamewardens, DAV, MOPH, VFW; a member of the American Legion, FRA, Vietnam Veterans of America, National Assoc. for the Uniformed Services, Veterans of the Vietnam War, NCOA, Retired Enlisted Assoc. and the Battleship New Jersey Historical Society.JAMES DEAN DAVY, born Feb. 28, 1948 in Anaconda, MT.
